Giving back

Sosian Lodge is committed to sustainable practices that integrate wildlife conservation, community engagement, and eco-friendly operations. Key aspects of their sustainability policy include:

Wildlife Conservation:

  • Predator Protection: The lodge employs secure corralling systems to safeguard livestock from predators like lions and hyenas, reducing human-wildlife conflict and promoting coexistence.
  • Habitat Restoration: In 1999, Sosian removed all internal fencing, allowing free movement of wildlife and contributing to ecological balance.

Community Engagement:

  • Employment and Training: Approximately 120 individuals from neighbouring communities are employed and trained in tourism, ranching, and anti-poaching, supporting local livelihoods.
  • Educational Support: Sosian supports a local school attended by 330 children, contributing to infrastructure improvements, providing supplies, and offering scholarships for secondary education.
  • Healthcare Initiatives: The lodge actively supports the local health clinic by contributing to nurses’ salaries and assisting with medical training, focusing on immunisation, basic health issues, and family planning.

Eco-Friendly Operations:

  • Water Management: Rainwater is collected from lodge roofs and stored in tanks for drinking, reducing reliance on external water sources.
  • Energy Efficiency: Solar power is utilised for water heating, minimising the lodge’s carbon footprint.
